Mass Effect's Andromeda Galaxy

Anyone who knows me, I recently became obsessed with the Mass Effect Trilogy. With the freedom to choose your own pathway in the game, the amazing detail of the story, and the change in paths depending on the choices you make, it is no surprise that I enjoy the game, the characters and the story of the Mass Effect Trilogy. The Mass Effect Trilogy doesn't just tell you the story in one path, but a path that you, as Commander Sheperd, create for yourself and your universe. It makes you feel like you are in control, that you are the legendary Commander Sheperd himself, creating your own legacy as you find your way to defeat the Reapers.

Since the announcement of the new Mass Effect: Andromeda at E3 about a month ago, I am now even more excited to play the new Mass Effect. Watch Mass Effect: Andromeda's E3 trailer below!

Based on a different galaxy called Andromeda, a new story unfolds of how humans will begin their new journey in an uncharted galaxy; of how you as the new hero will craft your own story. Interestingly enough, I found out a week later that the galaxy called Andromeda is actually true! I've then decided to find out more about Andromeda, and found a lot of interesting facts about Andromeda Galaxy.

For any galaxy and Mass Effect geeks out there, I hope you'll enjoy this small research I've looked into to satisfy my curiosity and obsession of the upcoming Mass Effect!

Andromeda gets its name from a beautiful princess in Greek mythology, who's name means the ruler of men. Believe it or not, this galaxy has always been visible by the naked eye every night, only when the skies are not disturbed by light pollution like in the city. Even though it is visible in the night skies every night, no one neccessarily knows where it is exactly.

Until 1923, when Edwin Hubble figured out that the bright patches were not just cloud of bright dust, but are actually a cluster of stars that are very, very far away. Using the 100-inch Hooker Telescope, astronomers, including Hubble, was able to see as far as the whole Milky Way Galaxy and identify several galaxies far away from our Milky Way; and one of the galaxies is Andromeda Galaxy.

Hubble's observation, in 1922-1923, found that the patches of stars, soon to be named as Andromeda galaxy, lies too far away to be part of our Milky Way; but it was in fact, its own entire galaxy millions of lightyears away from us.

With this discovery, we no longer thought that the Milky Way was the only universe we live in, but the universe includes many other galaxies just like ours. This opened the doors to many discoveries of new galaxies and a chance of finding another Earth like planet and actual other living beings in space; and to my surprise, there are already multiple Earth like plants in different galaxies! (Watch the video about the "Earth 2.0" here!)

As of right now, astronomers found out that the Andromeda Galaxy is actually approaching our galaxy and is about to collide with us. But not to worry, this will happen millions of years from now! (Watch the brief information about the Andromeda Galaxy here!)

With my excitement of the new Mass Effect game coming out, next question that pops into my mind is, will this be real one day? Will we actually be able to travel to the real Andromeda one day?

I think these are valid questions we fans of space travel and of the game can ask. I am certain that space travel is possible, and will one day be a reality. I mean, we've already travelled to the moon and Mars in the past 10-20 years, imagine what we can do in the next 10-20? Next 100 years maybe we can travel from one end of Milky Way Galaxy to another. And with the approach of the Andromeda Galaxy towards our galaxy, we might even cut short of our time travel towards it one day!

I can't express how fascinated and excited I am when I learn all these geeky stuff. What do you guys think of Andromeda or galaxies in general? Do you think you want to travel to another Earth like planet or galaxy if you have the chance one day? I think I would, so long as there is internet :P
